2008 ford focus review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. Developed with microsoft, sync provides a hands-free link to cell phones and mp3 players through a series of voice commands. It can even read text messages to occupants through the stereo system. It's an amazing system and ford appears to be ahead of everyone else in this area.  the redesigned interior is aesthetically pleasing. It looks better than that of the outgoing model, with nicer graining on the plastics that continue to dominate the cockpit. The ambience is not luxurious but appropriate for the price. While interior noise is also down from the last model, there is still plenty of road and engine noise, which are typical of economy cars.  as in the past, the focus handles well. We experienced lots of road feel with little body lean in corners while driving the top-line ses with its a sportier suspension. That road feel can make the ride a bit harder than some might prefer, but it isn't harsh and we appreciated the handling response.  with 140 horsepower, the focus has decent power for most needs, but passing on a busy two-lane road will require a lot of space. Options for s include cruise control 215), sirius satellite radio 195), and a temporary spare tire 60).  the se coupe 15,075) and sedan 15,375) add power windows, locks and mirrors; remote keyless entry; vehicle message center; and aluminum alloy wheels. Leather upholstery 695) is optional, and the ses is available with the se options.  safety features that come standard consist of dual-stage front airbags; torso-protecting, seat-mounted front side airbags; head-protecting side curtain airbags; tire pressure monitor; and latch-style child seat anchors. The result is at best conservative and at worst awkward and dull.  the front end is dominated by a two-bar version of the three-bar, razor-like chrome grille that first appeared on the fusion. The grille is flanked by headlights that wrap around to the sides and follow the curve of the hood toward the windshield. A too-large expanse of bumper is located under the grille and below that is a large air intake that houses fog lights at the corners on the topline ses model.  the sides feature a chromed triangular applique at the back of each front fender that simply seems like tacked on ornamentation. This piece, which looks like an f on the driver's side, is the starting point for a pair of character lines that flow back. The bottom line leads to the rear wheelwheel, while the top line rises from front to rear and teams with a high tail to give the focus the appearance of at least some dynamic motion. The rear of the coupe's roofline stays almost as high as the sedan's, which makes it look a bit clunky. The car looks best from the rear, where the simple angular shapes seem to work.  the overall result is a look that seems like a poor attempt at a family design statement. interiorinside the ford focus is an aesthetically pleasing cockpit. The dashboard is dominated by a shiny plastic silver inset that covers the middle of the dash and leads into the center console. This is surrounded by black plastic top and bottom. There are no soft-touch materials here, but the graining looks nicer than it did in last year's model. The center console is deep, though not especially wide.  on top of the dash is a hooded cutout that displays trip computer, radio, and, when ordered, sync information. The instrument panel has two large gauges, the speedometer and tachometer, and two small gauges, the fuel gauge and water temperature gauge. Along the top are buttons for 10 radio station presets. When sync and sirius satellite radio are ordered, drivers can store up to 60 stations: 20 fm, 10 am and 30 sirius. An easy-to-use set of climate controls is located below the stereo and sync controls. None of these buttons are hard to identify or reach.  at the base of the center stack is a nice rubberized tray. This area is fairly important because it is where drivers will keep their phones and ipods when they use the sync system. We found sync to be genuinely useful and fairly easy to use. When an mp3 player is plugged in, sync charges it and has access to the complete playlist. The driver can tell sync to play a specific song, artist, or genre of music from his mp3 player. When a bluetooth-enabled phone is in the car and paired to the system, sync can access its phonebook. It can even play back incoming text messages through the speakers and allow the driver to respond with one of 15 predetermined messages, all while the driver keeps his hands on the wheel. There are a couple glitches, though. I couldn't get the system to recognize 'kirk.' instead it heard my name as 'curt,' which is another number in my cell phone. And in general, the system is a bit tricky to learn at first.  the front seats are comfortable, with plenty of head and leg room. Thanks to large mirrors and small rear pillars, the driver's seat affords a good view to all corners. The rear seat has decent room with shorter people up front, but leg room disappears as the seats are moved back for taller front seat occupants. Head room is decent in the sedan, but a bit lacking in the coupe.  the trunk is fairly large at 13. 8 cubic feet. That's as big as or bigger than some midsize cars. The second row seats fold mostly flat to allow loading long, flat packages. This focus, though different in appearance, is basically that same car, which means it still handles well.  we drove the 2008 focus ses and found a lot of road feel is communicated through the steering wheel. There is little lean in turns; after an initial shift, it takes a nice set. The ses model benefits from the addition of a rear stabilizer bar for sharper handling. We have not driven the base model.  good road feel means the ride quality is a bit harder than some might prefer. But the focus isn't a penalty box. With the manual transmission the focus gets an epa-rated 24/35 mpg city/highway. With the automatic, it gets a healthy 24/33mpg.  the 2. 0-liter is competitive with most engines in this class. It has decent power for most needs, but passing maneuvers will require plenty of space.

2011 ford mustang review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. More power, more refinement. introductionthe ford mustang just keeps getting better. After a redesign for 2010, the 2011 mustang gets two new engines, as well as new transmissions and improvements to ride, handling, and noise. So the 2011 mustang represents a significant improvement over the superb 2010 edition of america's pony car, which was a large improvement over the 2004-2009 models, which was a major improvement over what came before that.  the mustang has been in continuous production for 46 straight years, and more than 9 million mustangs have been built and sold to date. That gives the mustang the longest production run of any single model in ford history.  the 2011 ford mustang comes in three body styles: coupe, convertible, and a glass-roof coupe. Each is available in both the traditional v6 model and the v8-powered mustang gt. Both engines are much more powerful this year.  the 3. 7-liter v6 replaces the old 4. 0-liter v6, the new one producing 305 horsepower versus just 210 horses from the older, bigger engine. The new v8 marks the return of the 5. 0. An new all-aluminum engine, the 5. 0-liter v8 in the mustang gt produces 412 horsepower, which is far more than the 315 horsepower of the outgoing 4. 6-liter v8. Both new engines for 2011 get new six-speed manual and automatic transmissions versus the five-speeds of 2010.  the ford shelby gt500 gains power for 2011, with a new aluminum version of the 5. 4-liter v8 producing 550 horsepower instead of the 500 ponies from the 2010 iron-block engine. We have not driven the new shelby gt500. Yet.  the 2011 engines transform the mustang, providing the type of willing power pony car fans will love while improving fuel economy at the same time. The engines are lighter and the car has more rigidity, so the already impressive handling is that much better.  the 2011 mustang is also quieter and more refined than ever, and, more importantly, it's an absolute blast to drive. It is quick off the mark with a brawny sound, crisp handling, a tight suspension, and much improved brakes. Put simply, this is the best mustang ever, and it is the model that other pony car makers should follow.  in addition to the new engines and transmissions, the 2011 mustang gets an additional front z brace and a revised suspension to improve ride quality while also improving handling; new safety features including ford's mykey system, power side mirrors with integral blind spot mirrors, and fold-down rear headrests; electric power steering meant to improve fuel economy while also aiding steering feel; and new features, such as a performance package for v6 models and available brembo brakes for the gt. lineupthe 2011 mustang is offered in v6 base and premium models, v8-powered gt base and premium models, and the supercharged v8-powered gt500, each in coupe and convertible body styles. V6 models use a new 3. 7-liter v6 that makes 305 horsepower. Gt models have a new 5. 0-liter v8 that produces 412 horsepower. The gt500s have an updated 5. 4-liter v8 that produces 550 horsepower. A six-speed manual transmission is standard and a six-speed automatic is optional 995) on all but the gt500.  the mustang v6 coupe 22,145) comes standard with cloth upholstery, air conditioning, tilt steering wheel, cruise control, split folding rear seat, power mirrors, power windows, power door locks, remote keyless entry, am/fm/cd player, auxiliary input jack, compass, outside-temperature indicator, theft-deterrent system, limited-slip differential, and p215/60r17 tires on alloy wheels.  the mustang v6 convertible 27,145) features a power convertible top and deletes the split-folding rear seat, but it is otherwise equipped the same as the coupe.  the mustang gt coupe 29,645) and mustang gt convertible 34,645) get everything above plus aluminum interior trim, automatic headlights, rear spoiler, fog lights, and p235/50wr18 front and 245/45wr18 rear tires. A brembo brake package 1,695) adds brembo brake calipers, reprogrammed electronic stability control that allows more leeway for performance driving, a tire mobility kit, and p255/40r19 tires.  premium versions of the v6 coupe 25,845) and v6 convertible 30,845) and gt coupe 32,845) and gt convertible 37,845) upgrade to leather upholstery, six-way power driver seat w/lumbar adjustment, aluminum interior trim, leather-wrapped steering wheel, shaker 500 am/fm/cd/mp3 audio, sirius satellite radio, ford sync entertainment and communications system, ipod adapter, wireless cell phone link, mycolor adjustable gauges, ambient lighting, and an automatic day/night rearview mirror.  the shelby gt500 coupe 48,645) and convertible 53,645) come with leather/alcantara-wrapped steering wheel, leather/alcantara upholstery, xenon headlights, sport suspension, brembo brakes, and p255/40zr19 front and 285/35zr19 rear tires. The gt500 does not have a split-folding rear seat. An svt performance package 3,495) for the shelby includes a 3. 73 rear axle ratio, unique shift knob, special exterior stripes, rear spoiler with gurney flap, performance suspension with unique springs and rear shocks, p265/40zr19 front and p285/35zr20 rear tires on painted forged aluminum wheels.  the v6 performance package adds a 3. 31 rear axle ratio; the front and rear stabilizer bars, front struts, and rear shocks and springs from the gt coupe; the rear lower control arm from the shelby gt500; 19-inch wheels with pirelli performance tires; the brake calipers from the mustang gt with performance friction pads; a strut tower brace; and electronic stability control calibration with a sport mode for performance driving. There's a sport appearance package 295) that just has the rear spoiler and body stripes.  the mustang club of america special edition 995) for the v6 premium adds p235/50zr18 tires on sterling gray metallic-painted alloy wheels, dark stainless painted billet grille with tri-bar pony badge, side tape stripes, decklid tape, rear spoiler, carpeted floormats with pony logo, and automatic headlights.  the california special 1,995) edition for the gt premium adds 19-inch painted alloy wheels, a chrome billet grille with tri-bar pony badge, unique lower front fascia with foglamps, pedestal spoiler, decklid badge with faux gas cap, instrument panel applique, carbon door panel inserts, carbon inserts for leather seating surfaces, carpeted floormats with logo, rear diffuser-style fascia, decklid tape and side scoops.  a navigation system with voice recognition and real-time traffic information, and dual-zone automatic climate control come with the electronics group 2,340). The comfort group 595) adds heated front seats and a six-way power-adjustable front passenger seat. With its 2010 redesign, ford gave a nod to the 1969-70 mustang with a new face that features a wider grille opening.  other elements of the redesign could be seen as tributes to the past. The coupe's fastback roofline, unchanged from the last generation, recalls the original 1964. 5 mustang. The chamfered three-element taillamps, which house sequential turn signals that blink from the inside lamp to the outside lamp, were first found on the 1964 thunderbird, then the 1967-68 shelby mustangs and late '60s mercury cougars. And the hockey stick lower character line could be viewed as an homage to the lower portion of the side coves found on mustangs from 1964 to '68.  compared to the last generation body style, ford said the 2010 mustang had 23 percent less aerodynamic lift at the front with a new slotted panel installed under the radiator to direct air, 50 percent better in front/rear lift balance, and seven percent less aerodynamic drag. For 2011, the company has lowered the front air dam and added a front splitter and an underbody aero shield to improve aerodynamics by another 4 percent.  ford took several steps to improve noise, vibration and harshness for the 2010 model year, and the company has done even more for 2011. Additional sound-deadening material on the instrument panel and a rear wheel arch liner help drivers hear the sounds they want (namely the engine) and avoid the sounds that can be a distraction (such as dash creaks and tire noise).  the 3453-pound mustang (3605 pounds for the gt) uses welded steel unibody construction with front and rear subframes to mount the steering and suspension systems, with almost half the body weight in high-strength low-alloy steel. It is by far the lightest of the new breed of pony cars, beating the camaro by 300 pounds and the dodge challenger by as much as 500 pounds. The weight savings are a definite advantage.  the convertible comes standard with a power top with a glass rear window. The top uses two latches that the driver must operate, but they're within arm's reach and they latch and unlatch easily. interioranyone who hasn't been in a mustang for a couple of years will want to take a look at the 2011 model. The interior was much improved for 2010 and there are even more improvements for 2011. The front bucket seats are significantly more comfortable and better looking than the slabs used in the 2009 models, though they could still use more lateral support. The aforementioned noise.

2007 ford mustang review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. New shelby model adds supercharged muscle. introductionthe mustang remains one of the most widely recognized, respected, and desired nameplates in the automobile business. The ford mustang defined the pony-car segment in 1964; plymouth's barracuda may have beaten ford to the showroom by 16 days, but it was the mustang that set the sales records. The 'cuda is gone now, and so are the camaro, firebird, cougar, javelin, challenger, and every other would-be rival, leaving ford's pony to prance alone. At least for now.  for 2007, the 210-hp mustang v6 and 300-hp mustang gt are joined by the new 500-hp supercharged shelby gt500, offering its own look, tuning, and equipment.  available in fastback coupe or convertible body styles, the mustang v6 models make nice, stylish cruisers. The gt is an absolute hoot to drive, making all the right sounds, hanging onto corners tenaciously, and delivering thrilling acceleration performance. The shelby gt500 adds to the fun with its near-corvette performance. It's quite tossable, making for good sport on gymkhanas, race tracks or back roads. It delivers the bold styling, rear-drive performance and affordability that have been mustang hallmarks for decades, but it's smoother and quieter and better built than older models.  its interior looks like a throwback from the '60s, but it's functional and well finished. Granted, interior space is limited, especially given its exterior dimensions; and the back seat might better be described as a package shelf.  the ford mustang is an american success story. It holds true to an idea that still appeals to people of all ages, decades after the original was launched. Forty-three years after it created an automotive niche all its own, mustang is both true to its roots and better than ever. lineupthe mustang comes in two body styles: coupe and convertible. Each is available with a v6 or a v8. A five-speed manual transmission is standard; a five-speed automatic optional 995). Its 4. 6-liter overhead-cam v8 produces 300 horsepower.  the gt premium coupe 26,455) adds a 500-watt cd changer and aberdeen leather-trimmed sport seats.  the gt convertible 30,100) and gt premium convertible 31,280), are equipped similarly to the coupe versions.  the shelby gt500 comes as a coupe 40,930) or convertible 45,755). The gt500 is powered by a 5. 4-liter supercharged v8 developing 500 horsepower. It incurs a gas-guzzler tax 1300).  the pony package 750) for v6 models adds a firmer suspension, 17-inch painted aluminum wheels, a custom grille with fog lamps, and other visual upgrades, giving these more economical mustangs something closer to the look and handling of a gt.  a new california special package 1895) spiffs up a premium gt with 18-inch wheels, side scoops, unique tape stripes, rolled bright exhaust tips, black leather trimmed seats with unique 'cal special' contrasting dove or parchment inserts, a larger air intake, a deeper chin spoiler, and unique front and rear fascias. The name refers to a special limited edition offered to california ford dealers in 1968, but this cal special will be available nationwide. The gt appearance package 245) features rolled exhaust tips, an engine cover with a pony emblem, and a hood scoop.  options include a new comfort group 575) that includes an electrochromic mirror with compass, heated front seats, and six-way power for the front passenger seat. Stand-alone options include an active anti-theft system 328); 1000-watt audio 1,295); an interior upgrade package with leather-wrapped steering wheel, satin aluminum trim, and other cool-looking goodies 460); power-adjustable driver's seat for the deluxe coupe 365); heated front seats 250); and 18-inch wheels 825). Sirius satellite radio 195) joins the option list for '07, and dvd-based navigation will be available on later 2007 models.  safety features on all mustangs include dual-stage front-impact airbags and three-point belts for all seats. Antilock brakes and traction control are standard on gts and optional on v6 models. Front passenger side-impact airbags 380) are optional on all models, so be sure to order them as they are designed to offer torso protection in a side impact. walkaroundnothing says modern american sporty car better than this latest mustang. Its long hood and short rear deck capitalize on 40 years of pony-car heritage. The current mustang features classic design cues that have defined mustangs since the 1960s: c-scoops in the sides, three-element tail lamps and a galloping horse badge in the center of the grille. Its menacing shark-like nose is reminiscent of the 1967-70 models.  yet the mustang follows modern trends by offering ever-larger wheels, including two distinct 18-inch wheel designs for the gt. The modern mustang is based on the same mechanical platform as the jaguar s-type, albeit with some cost-trimming measures such as its live-axle rear suspension.  relative to previous mustangs, everything under the car has been substantially upgraded. The brakes are bigger by nearly 20 percent. A completely new front and rear suspension yields a much quieter, smoother ride as well as much more precise steering during hard cornering. New engines deliver performance with efficiency. Optional antilock brakes bundled with traction control give any a fighting chance in bad situations.  all mustang engines are secured to the body with hydraulic mounts, which absorb and counteract vibration and pulsing. By adapting ideas and components from luxury cars, ford has given the current mustang a level of sophistication its predecessors never had. Yet the mustang heritage of low-cost performance and flashy styling has not been compromised one iota.  like its muscle-era namesake, the shelby gt500 stands out with a unique front grille and bumper fascia, providing both a functionally larger and unimpeded air intake, while reducing air flow under the body. A unique engine hood with dual air-extraction slits is domed to clear the larger, 5. 4-liter engine. Carroll shelby's signature striking-cobra emblem glowers from the gas cap and from a characteristically off-center position in the grille. The whole package rides on unique 18-inch rims sporting ford's svt (special vehicle team) logo. Just as in 1968, coupes are topped by le mans-style racing stripes. They look terrific, though we're not sure they should carry down onto the rear bumper where they compete with the rear license plate.  shelby convertibles feature a premium fabric for the top. interiorthe mustang interior is as blatantly throwback as the exterior, and nearly as well done. It's sporty and crisp in appearance and straightforward in function.  there's a heavy dose of 1967 mustang inside, with the dash divided into distinct right and left pods, blended with modern touches. Chrome-ringed air vents align across the dash, precisely in line with the gauges, and the steering wheel has three spokes with a center hub marked by the horse-and-tricolor-bars logo. While some of the materials have a cost-saving look and feel, the package is not bad given the high style and price of entry. Speaking of brightening, however, there's enough shiny metal on this car's dash and steering wheel to create some glare problems for drivers on sunny days (just like the old days). Another interior upgrade package, with satin or dark-finish aluminum inserts instead of chrome, goes a long way toward eliminating traces of cheapness.  these are the good old days in terms of roominess in the mustang. 2002 ford focus review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. New zx5 adds more practicality to the fun. introductionford focus is the world's best-selling car. It's also one of the most enjoyable compacts in its price range. It's fun, it's practical.  the focus has won safety kudos from the federal government. The svt engine, however, comes exclusively with a six-speed manual transmission.  sedans are the most popular of the focus models. The sedan is available in three trim levels: entry-level lx 12,845), an upgraded se 14,350), and the 130-horsepower zts 15,355).  three-door hatchback models are available in zx3 trim or the high-performance svt model. The zx3 12,470) is a sport compact, and comes with all the requisite hardware: the 130-horsepower twin-cam engine, 15-inch aluminum alloy wheels, and fog lights. Its wild styling makes the hatchback look sportier and even more distinctive than the sedan. Power windows, mirrors and locks, and keyless entry are now available 740), along with optional cruise control.  wagons are available in se and ztw trim. Se 16,640) se comes standard with the 130-horsepower dohc zetec engine and a choice of manual or automatic transmission. New for 2002 is the ztw wagon 17,735), billed as an enthusiast's sport wagon; ztw comes equipped with 16-inch alloy wheels, leather seating, and a six-disc in-dash cd changer. Zx5 comes standard with the 130-horsepower zetec engine, 16-inch alloy wheels, fog lamps, six-disc in-dash cd changer and much more.  also new for 2002 is the focus svt 17,505). Based on the three-door zx3, it has been modified by ford's special vehicle team (svt) to produce 170 horsepower. Svt boasts a getrag six-speed manual transmission, svt-tuned suspension, special trim including a rear spoiler, and more. Only about 7500 will be made, all for north america.  ford's advancetrac 1225) vehicle dynamics system is on the option list for all focus models. Described below, advancetrac includes rear disc brakes and traction control, but requires ordering the optional anti-lock brakes 400).  other optional safety equipment includes side-impact air bags 350). Cruise control is also an option. walkaroundford's new edge styling features tidy creases that define intersecting arcs.  large pie-section headlamps give the front end a distinctive appearance. Several models have fog lamps in the grille opening below the front bumper. There's a similar, but smaller opening above the bumper that houses the turn signals. Both are outlined by arcs. The front and rear fenders are highlighted with geometric curves creased into the sheetmetal.  the roofline is highly arched, particularly noticeable when parked next to another car. The roofline is truncated just aft of the rear axle line. Wedge-shaped tail lamps set in the c-pillars enliven an otherwise plain rear end of the zx3 and zx5. Ford claims the tail lamps are more noticeable in that location and reduce repair costs in minor accidents. However, the sedan and wagon have conventionally placed tail lamps, so we'll accept the unique shape and location as distinctive and effective styling.  lower bodyside pvc coating provides protection from stone dings on all models, and the underbody gets pvc coating as well. Clearcoat paint is standard across the board.  zx3 and lx have black rather than body-color bodyside protective molding, but this is offset on the zx3 by black rocker panels. The door handles on all models are black as well. The door handles on black cars blends in, but black also masks the distinctive lines of the focus that are accentuated by the brighter colors. interiorthe focus is designed from the inside out for maximum interior space within the confines of a compact body. Elevated seating height provides more comfortable legroom.  the front seats are cushy comfy, well bolstered for side support. The seats have an exceptionally high hip point, 20 inches above the ground. The advantages of this seating include a better view down the road, plus more effective leg room front and rear, and it takes advantage of the high roofline with headroom for the long and tall. It also makes entry and exit easier. The manual height adjustment on the zx3 allows almost everyone to find a comfortable position behind the wheel and an easy arm's length away from the manual shifter.  ford's new edge styling extends to the interior. The dash is a collection of arcs, the instrument panel covered by an asymmetrically curved and sharply creased bezel. The fuel gauge has a small arrow pointing to the right, denoting on which side the filler is located, appreciated by those of us who drive a number of cars, have bad memories or both.  a 7000-rpm tachometer flanks a 140-mph speedometer in the zx5. Both instruments are round and easily readable, clearly marked with white numerals on black, though the tach has no redline.  the center dash panel is formed by an arc that sweeps upward across the dash to the right side of the car and an inverted parabola. In the zx5, zts, and ztw it's finished in brushed aluminum instead of black. The radio fits into the top of this area and includes a six-disc cd player, but no cassette player. Snuggled into the top left is a 12-volt power outlet and trinket tray where the cigarette lighter and ash tray formerly were. Circular ventilation controls, less frequently accessed, fit below the radio and are styled in the new edge theme, with buttons styled to fit the room available.  the trunk release, on the left end of the dash, is triangular as well, shaped to fit into the intersection of the arcs outlining the instrument panel.  with its asymmetrical design, the interior looks both informal and rich at the same time. Control knobs all have distinctive shapes for easy identification. Rotary controls are rubberized for pleasing soft-touch operation. The steering wheel on the zx5 is leather-covered and satisfying to touch. Even the plastics used on the dash and door panels have a finger-friendly soft-touch feel. Once there, rear-seat riders have lots of legroom, thanks to widely spaced runners under the front seats, plus adult-sized head and shoulder room. Fold the back seat of the zx3 or zx5 and there's 18. 5 cubic feet of cargo space (yes, for either) and a big door for access. The versatility of the hatchback design is lost on many americans, who prefer the more formal sedan profile with its conventional trunk. But hatchbacks are making a comeback in america, and the design is hugely popular among europeans for its practicality.  focus wagons offer the largest cargo capacity in their class. Fold the rear seats down and there's 55. 8 cubic feet of cargo capacity or 37. 5 cubic feet with the rear seats in place. driving impressionbehind the wheel, the ford focus is an enjoyable car. The 130-horsepower engine answers a heavy foot with surprisingly rapid acceleration, a benefit of a lightweight car with well-developed torque characteristics. Fully 80 percent of the engine's maximum torque is available from idle to 6000 rpm; peak torque of 135 foot-pounds comes at 4500 rpm. Making the zx3 even more satisfying to drive is ford's excellent control of noise, vibration and harshness in this engine. In the zx3, we noted that the clutch take-up is good and easy to modulate. Shifting into first gear reveals a rubbery feel to the linkage of the long-shafted shifter. Left in drive, it operates like a conventional american automatic. That is to say it's as dependable as sunrise, but not as exciting. It does have an overdrive-off button, plus d2 and d1 slots, but it lacks the sporty feel and effect of the manual gearbox. Also, fuel economy drops from an epa-rated 33 mpg on the highway with the manual to 31 mpg with the automatic.  still, the zx5 doesn't act like an economy car. 2005 ford mustang review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. Exciting new model revives the ponycar. introductionthe ford mustang has been the icon of american performance since its 1964 introduction, popular for its bold style, rear-wheel drive performance and affordable price. The mustang started the ponycar genre, and now, after 40 years of competition with the camaro, firebird and others, it's the only one left.  the new mustang represents a clean-sheet design, riding on an all-new platform. It's faster, more agile and better looking than ever. The mustang gt boasts a new multi-valve, overhead-cam v8 that produces 300 horsepower and is available with a tremec five-speed manual or an automatic. lineupthe new mustang is being offered in coupe and convertible versions, though the convertibles won't be available until spring 2005. The premium package 585) adds 16-inch bright machined aluminum wheels with chrome spinners, a new shaker 500-watt audio system with 6-disc cd changer and mp3 capability, and a 6-way power adjustable driver seat.  mustang gt 24,370) features a new 300-horsepower 4. 6-liter sohc v8. Options on all mustang gts include the five-speed automatic transmission 995), side-impact air bags 370), 17-inch machined aluminum wheels 195), active anti-theft system 255), a shaker 1000-watt audio system 1,295), an interior upgrade package 450), and an interior color enhancement package 175). walkaroundnothing says modern american sporty car better than this new mustang. Its long hood and short rear deck capitalize on 40 years of mustang history. The new mustang features classic design cues that have defined mustangs since the 1960s: c-scoops in the sides, three-element taillamps and a galloping horse badge in the center of the grille. Its menacing shark-like nose is reminiscent of the 1967 model.  the new mustang is based on a modified version of the platform that underpins the lincoln ls, the jaguar s-type, and the ford thunderbird, but with a new three-link live-axle rear suspension installed in place of the irs under the luxury cars in order to keep the price down (the original idea was to offer the irs as standard equipment, but it will likely be on the cobra version when it comes). Ford reasons that more mustang fans will favor the solid-axle rear suspension for their recreational track days and drag racing.  everything under the car has been upgraded substantially from previous mustang levels: bigger brakes by nearly 20 percent, completely new front and rear suspension designs that yield much quieter, smoother ride as well as much more precise steering and harder cornering, two new engines, two new transmissions, and a large-diameter (2. 5 inches from end to end) performance exhaust system. There's nothing left of the old mustang but the logos. Optional anti-lock brakes bundled with traction control give any driver much more of a fighting chance in bad situations.  both new engines are mounted to their bodies with hydraulic engine mounts, which absorb and counteract vibration and pulsing, and the combination of the engine and transmission bolted together, is stiffer than previous designs, which should also add to quietness. The car absolutely bristles with other new technologies.  the mustang heritage of low-cost performance and flashy styling has not been compromised one iota by putting the new car on the platform that ford used to call the cdw. By adapting lots of ideas and components from luxury cars like the jaguar s-type, lincoln ls, and thunderbird that were previously built on the cdw model, they have given the mustang a whole new level of sophistication that no mustang before it ever had. There's a very heavy dose of 1967 mustang interior design, with two distinct right and left pods. Because of the longer wheelbase and larger overall size, there is a lot more hip, leg, elbow and shoulder room inside this mustang that in any previous generation mustang.  in addition to the slick new interior decor, the new mustang has the industry's first color-changeable instrument panel display, with 125 color schemes to choose from. And, speaking of brightening, there is more shiny metal on the interior, including the vent rings, steering wheel spokes and other bits, and on sunny days, that can cause some vision and glare problems for the driver.  we found the front bucket seats to be comfortable, supportive and retentive in hard corners, and in general, the interior looks like it belongs in a much more expensive car. There is an interior upgrade package that adds red leather seats, red door inserts and red floor mats on cars with appropriate exterior colors. Another package adds real aluminum trim to the interior for one more customization step.  the basic sound system that comes with the car is pretty darn good, but in this day and age of pervasive music, there has to be more, more wattage, more speakers, more power. The ride has smoothed out, and the remaining harshness is of a completely different order. The new rear suspension uses coil springs and a lightweight three-link design with a panhard bar and other locators to keep things constant.  the new 4. 0-liter v-6 engine has more technical sophistication than any previous ford v-6. It is a very solid performer in urban, exurban and suburban duties, and the ratios in the automatic seem well matched to the available torque. When the automatic transmission gets into overdrive fifth gear, the engine goes quietly into economy mode until called upon for a lane change, a pass, or an uphill charge. But it's still a large-displacement v-6 and it sounds more muscular at full throttle than any previous ford v-6 engine.  the v-6 deluxe is the most popular model; ford says that for every three gts sold, it will sell seven of the v-6 versions. At this low price, we were particularly impressed with its power, torque, acceleration, and general road manners, including its pretty, rorty exhaust note. The new three-valve v-8 engine features both variable camshaft timing and electronic throttle control, with a new set of smarter, faster-acting engine electronic controls. It will run 0-60 mph in about 5. 5 seconds, it will outbrake a large number of sporty cars with its big new brakes, and it handles better on canyon roads that any previous mustang except the cobra, with a minimum of body roll and a large portion of tire grip.  it looks mean, and it drives mean, with 320 pound-feet of torque, a slick shifter, a brawny, loud exhaust note, and one of the world's largest aftermarket networks

2008 ford f-150 review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. With the segment's only rear-hinged side access doors, the regular cab gives excellent recline space and an easy reach to everything dropped behind the seat. At the other end of the scale, premium models include two-tone leather seats, polished 22-inch wheels and other touches: within those extremes lies something for everyone.  2008 marks the first availability of an xl-grade supercrew with 5. 5- or 6. 5-foot bed: maximum people space with a work truck ethic. Detail changes for 2008 run the gamut from functional to decorative, the latter a wheels and stripes package for stx models, the former a standard tachometer for xl and stx with manual transmission, tire pressure monitors on the heavy-duty package, plus the availability of a cargo management system, remote start, telescoping towing mirrors, and a rearview camera (that does not require purchase of a navigation system).  with one of the deepest beds in the half-ton pickup segment, the f-150 has generous cargo volume out back and a maximum payload rating of 3,050 pounds. A foose edition f-150 designed by hot-rod master chip foose will be available as a late-2008 model. The base f-150 xl 17,345) is a short, regular cab two-wheel drive. Wheels are steel, the grille is black and bumpers painted, vinyl covers the floor and seats, and the audio is am/fm. However, it does have intermittent wipers, map lights, a 40/20/40 split bench front seat with driver lumbar adjustment, and on supercabs 23,440) air conditioning. Since it frequently adds other upgrades and a larger engine, 4wd adds almost $6,000 (and a v8) to the most basic example and $3,000 to the lowest-priced supercab.  stx models up the ante without going broke, with body-color front and rear bumpers and grille trim, air conditioning, cd player, and cloth upholstery. A 4x2 regular cab short bed starts at $21,050 and a 4x4 supercab flareside goes for $29,045; there is no stx supercrew.  central to the lineup, and sales, is the xlt. To an stx it adds chrome bumpers, black honeycomb grille, remote keyless entry, power mirrors/locks/windows, carpeting, auto headlamps, tinted windows, and better fabric for the 40/20/40 seat. Hefty rubber mats protect the carpet; other upgrades include a leather-wrapped wheel, unique instrument display, and sport cloth upholstery with driver and passenger lumbar support. Monotone paint includes the bumpers (gray with tow-tone paint), flares cover 18-inch aluminum wheels, and the door gets keypad entry. On regular cabs 24,105-30,645) the fx4 is $5,750 over the fx2 and there's no long-wheelbase fx4; on supercab and supercrew 28,700-35,445), the 4wd version is a $3,295 premium.  the lariat label is reserved for more luxurious, car-like interiors, and does not include regular cab or flareside models; retail prices range from $29,895-$35,595. Fancy bits include 18-inch aluminum wheels, power heated mirrors with signal repeaters, climate control, leather-trimmed seats and steering wheel, powered driver's seat, trip computer, light-faced gauges, and chrome and arizona beige trim.  for 2008, ford will build 5,000 lariat limited f-150s, replete with serial-number plates, spun-metal instrument cluster trim, two-tone leather cabin, color-matched grille and bumpers, and three-dimensional chrome bed side badging. Limited models are offered only as 139-inch wheelbase supercrews in two- 35,160) or all-wheel drive 38,160).  top tier among regular production models is the king ranch, with castano leather modeled after the saddles that roamed the texas ranch. Exterior trim is similar to lariats, with color-matching components and arizona beige accents. At this level, items such as heated power seats and power-folding mirrors are standard. And the 2008 ford f-150 shows the evolution of 70 years of function. Angular means easy to clean, easy to park and gives maximum inside volume for outside space. The f-150 is easily recognized in any trim level by the circular front lights within a rectangular housing, stepped front window ledge, opening rear doors on the regular cab, and the tall bed. For 2008, extendable dual-element towing mirrors bring the f-150 in line with the bigger super duty pickups, as well as the ram, titan, and tundra. Any cosmetic sacrifice is well worth the extra visibility with a trailer behind.  pillars between the doors may yield a blind spot for those who sit more rearward and everyone should appreciate the windshield pillar designed to help preserve forward vision. The flareside really is more stylish than the styleside bed, that which is essentially a box with some character lines in the sheetmetal, and more space within. The chrome harley badges are a bit much for some of us, but it drew many admiring looks. interiorford has all bases covered inside the f-150, with plenty of patterns, textures and finishes, including at least three different gauges clusters, and the choice of a 40/20/40 split-bench front seat or captain's chairs in many models. Captain's chairs on fx and lariat models, especially with power adjustment and the optional adjustable pedals, provide good driver positioning for virtually everyone. Finding it may take some time because the backrest angle adjustment is manual and the power controls are on the side of the seat with the door very close.
